120 residents gathered at Jordan United Church of Christ to hear Wendell Potter's story of conversion, his commitment to health care addess, and how people of all faiths can help protect Medicare, Medicaid, and SCHIP.
The Reverends Dick Baumann, John Grabish, Maritza Torres-Dolich, Bob Stevens, David Charles Smith, and CUNA Executive Director Joshua Chisholm attended the convocation in response to a "prophetic call to action," which reminds us about the responsiblity of people, especially those in power, to care for the poor and the vulnerable members of society.
During the 4 hour job fair 253 interviews were conducted and over 92 resumes were collected to be exact.
To prepare local teens for the new summer job opportunities, CUNA leaders and partner organization HYPE, led a training session and community meeting. Over 64 people attended.
Tuesday, May 03, 2011, 100 residents, local teens, and faith leaders from across the city of Allentown as part of Congregations United for Neighborhood Action (CUNA) met with Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski to both present a pilot initiative to put more Allentown teens to work this summer and to ask the Mayor to help lead the charge.
